Responsibilities and Achievements

  • Marketing Strategy - Responsible for all areas of marketing including product management, and external communications.

  • M&A - Played a key role in the successful merger of InCert with Geodesic Systems including product integration plans and communications with all stakeholders. Member of core team charged with raising venture capital and investment banking relations.  Raised $2 million Series D in tough market.

  • Product Management - Successfully repositioned the company's products from developer tools to infrastructure software.  Developed the concept of Application Fault Management and educated markets about its importance.

  • Marketing Communications - Overall responsibility for all forms of marketing communications.  Hands-on experience with PR, shows, web marketing programs, analyst relations, direct mail. 

SWAN International, Inc. 1/99 - 12/01: VP Marketing for North America

Served as part of the Executive Management Team during SWAN's successful international IPO.

Responsibilities and Achievements

Web Marketing - Designed and wrote SWAN's worldwide web site. Conceived and implemented industry's best web marketing program generating over 250 unique visits per day to web site. (Was about 20 when I started).  SWAN owned exclusive keywords, including competitor brand names, on major search engines, locking out competitors.  Developed and implemented web-based seminar program generating hundreds of leads.  Result: Millions of dollars in revenue worldwide from companies like Media Station, IDX Corporation, Oce Netherlands, Executive Computing Group, and multi-million dollar pipeline.

Marketing Strategy - Developed North American focus on self-healing desktop management and software distribution based on market trends and industry research.  Provided worldwide support for collateral, market research, ROI information, etc.  Assisted in development of overall sales strategy.

Channel Development - Recruited and negotiated SWAN's first worldwide OEM deal.  $250,000 up front commitment; multi-million potential.

Lead Generation - Developed and implemented web, print, direct mail and PR lead generation programs.

Public Relations - Managed agency and generated industry coverage including highly positive, feature review in Information Week.  Wrote press releases, ghost wrote feature articles.

Sales Collateral - Developed and wrote product brochure used worldwide, translated into 6 languages.  Developed case studies,

Market Research - Supervised analyst firm to develop product profile white paper, competitive analysis for sales positioning and RFP template for web downloads.

Analyst Management - Managed analyst tour for initial penetration into U.S. market.

Sales Training - Developed and delivered sales and marketing training to employees and channel partners including Australian partner.

Petzold Advertising 1986 - 1999:  Senior Vice President of New Hampshire's largest, full service, business-to-business ad agency. Agency is now closed with retirement of owner.

  • Business Development  - Chief agency rainmaker. Brought in dozens of clients representing several million dollars in billings including 3 of agency's 4 largest clients and 56% of gross profit in 1998. Strong sales and presentation skills.
  • Account Executive - Responsible for client marketing and advertising strategies. Marshall agency resources to create effective campaigns that profit both the client and agency.
  • Account Supervision - Provided marketing strategy and managed three Senior Account Executives. Recruit and hire key agency personnel.
  • MIS Manager - Specified, purchased and maintained 16-person, office network. Windows NT and Mac platforms. Extensive knowledge of numerous PC applications.

  • Web Site Development - Work with clients to develop web site strategy; design and code sites, write and maintain content, some graphic design. Measure traffic. Created and wrote agency's entire web. Created over 20 corporate web sites.
  • Web Marketing - Expert in Search Engine Optimization to drive free traffic. Web banner advertising including media research and placement, banner creative development and analysis of results. Frequent speaker on Web Marketing.
